May all beings be happy and free from suffering.  That is the basic translation for one of my favorite mantras, Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu.

It’s that time of year again – the time for people to see, parties to attend, family to host, gratitude to abound.  Maybe. Perhaps this is a welcome time of year for you.  Perhaps you thrive on the busy-ness and extroverted excitement of the season.

Or. Perhaps this all seems a little (or a lot) overwhelming to you and your heart wants to hide a little, stay closed, not venture too far out there into the world of lights, sparkles, and the overabundance of holiday cheer.

Whichever the case may be for you, I have a Thanksgiving and holiday season offering for your gentle heart.

As you can, early in the morning, light a candle.

Breathe.

Watch the flame flicker.

Breathe.

If you practice pranayama, do so.

And when your body has settled, begin repeating to yourself: Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu.

You don’t need to remember the exact translation.  That’s the beauty of the Sanskrit language – the words themselves, the vibrations, are sacred.  Repeat it again and again.

This is a peace offering for the world, and all the inhabitants of it.  Which – includes YOU.

This season, create space in your heart for peace.  For acceptance.  For pure love to reside.  No one else even has to see it.  Make it your secret.

May all beings everywhere be happy and free from suffering.  (Including you and including me.)

If you wish, watch here.
