This past weekend my husband and I went away for the weekend to the beautiful town of Goderich, ON for our “babymoon.” Like most things in this pregnancy, I think it was somewhat delayed from when couples typically take this type of holiday, but it felt right for us.
We started talking about a babymoon about a month ago.
I really like the concept of enjoying some quality time together as a couple before you’re thrown headfirst into parenthood and the rest of your life. My husband and I have always enjoyed being active and traveling. A typical weekend would include a 15km hike, visiting family, cooking, and more. We love to go camping and explore new places. While we are determined to continue doing these things with our sweet baby, we know that things will require adaption and change with a little one along.
So it was nice to enjoy one last weekend together to do whatever we wanted, without having a carry a diaper bag or follow someone else’s sleep schedule! We enjoyed the sunsets of Lake Huron, visited the local museum, enjoyed picnic lunch in the park, walked on the beach and visited a few local nature spots. We had the cutest little Airbnb with such a nice host. Upon our arrival we read that the name of the Airbnb “Kokopelli” is named after a fertility diety that presides over childbirth and agriculture. It fit our weekend just perfectly!
We also spent some time this weekend preparing for the arrival of our sweet girl.
The topic of name choice has been high on the priority list these days. We made a “short list”… and then ended up adding more names back to the list! We read some information to prepare for labour and delivery and talked about what our life will look like this summer, setting boundaries and what we want for our sweet girl in the first few months of her life.
We had a great weekend; saying goodbye to how things have been, while being incredibly excited for how things will be in our near future!
