This past weekend, I attended a friend’s bridal shower where I was one of five attendees who were currently pregnant. Ever since I “popped,” I’ve dealt with my fair share of “Is this your first?” and “Aren’t you SO excited?” questions, but the bridal shower felt like new territory, since besides the bride-to-be, five pregnant ladies all in one room tend to draw attention to themselves.
I didn’t think much of it when I first arrived, but after finding myself in a couple of uncomfortable situations where I was definitely not able to relate or contribute to the conversation, I pretty much avoided talking to anyone I didn’t know for the rest of the shower. I left feeling absolutely exhausted, and wondering: is it always going to be like this from now on? Maybe this is all part of the new normal?
