On the day I heard the most dreadful words, “There is no heartbeat,” my own heart broke into a million tiny pieces. I struggled to know if I was a parent. I worried you would be forgotten. And, even though time has passed, as we head into Pregnancy, Infant, and Child Loss Awareness Month, I want people to know that because of you, my child, my life forever changed. You existed. You mattered. You will not be forgotten.
Because of you, my child, I became a parent.
Because of you, my child, there is a hole in my heart that can never be repaired.
Because of you, my child, I became a member of the club no one wants to join, and yet found the most incredible community.
Because of you, my child, I know great love.
Because of you, my child, I found the strength to tell our story, to speak your name, to honor your life.
Because of you, my child, I am forever changed.
Because of you, my child, I will forever have footprints on my heart.
All because of you, my child.
